Procession of Silence
In Badalona, in the evening of Maundy Thursday, the Confraternity of Sant Anastasi holds the Procession of Silence, which is thought to be one of the most ancient in Catalonia.
The Maundy Thursday procession in Badalona is a religious and cultural tradition dating back to 1627. Although it was not held between 1974 and 1987, it returned with renewed vigour, bringing back the mysteries (religious statues) that had been kept in private houses during that 13-year period. The stillness and respect observed during the procession have led it to be known as the “Procession of Silence”.
