Embarrats Fair
Embarrats (literally, “drive shafts”) is a historical recreation showcasing the exceptional industrial heritage of Sant Joan de Vilatorrada, forged in the mid-19th century.
Sant Joan de Vilatorrada holds its annual Embarrats Fair on the last weekend of October. The fair celebrates the town’s textile industry and life around the Cardener River at the turn of the 20th century. Dramatised guided tours of the textile factories take place on Saturday evening but the big day is Sunday, when the street fair is held.
This year’s fair will feature music performances, fair stalls, typical shows, dramatised tours and characters that evoke the atmosphere of Sant Joan de Vilatorrada at the turn of the 20th century, when life revolved around the routines of the factories. Soak up the wails of the sirens, the rhythmic sounds of the looms, the chatter of the workers, the lively discussions in cafés and the gossip at the public laundry.
